Directed by R.S. Prasanna and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Sitaare Zameen Par — featuring Aamir Khan, Genelia D'Souza, Dolly Ahluwalia, and 10 fresh talents — has finally hit theaters today (June 20). Serving as a spiritual sequel to the 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par, the new film swaps academics for sports, focusing on inclusivity and emotional growth.
Khan plays Gulshan Arora, a former basketball coach sentenced to community service after a DUI arrest. Tasked with coaching a neurodivergent basketball team, he initially struggles to connect but slowly finds purpose through empathy and deep bonds formed on the court.
Despite high expectations and buzz over its heartfelt message, fans hoping to stream the film will be disappointed. Aamir Khan reportedly declined a hefty ₹120 crore offer from Amazon Prime Video—and rejected Netflix’s interest—citing concerns over declining theater attendance. Instead, he plans to debut the film on YouTube via a pay-per-view model, aiming to preserve the theatrical experience and explore alternative distribution.
For now, Sitaare Zameen Par remains exclusively in cinemas as Aamir Khan champions the return of marquee movie-going.
